Hadrian's early sestertii are tied directly to his effort to stabilize Roman finances following Trajan's costly Dacian and Parthian campaigns. The MONETA AVGVSTI type was part of a deliberate program of issues emphasizing monetary authority — struck at a moment when Hadrian was quietly reversing his predecessor's expansionist policies and redirecting imperial resources inward. RIC II.3 #433 belongs to the revised Spink corpus published in 2019, which substantially reorganized Hadrian's coinage and reassigned numerous pieces previously misattributed under the older RIC II numbering.
