| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate bust of Emperor Hadrian facing left, draped over the left shoulder with a paludamentum, depicted from the rear or side in the distinctive Hadrianic three-quarter rear view. The emperor's curly hair and short beard — hallmarks of Hadrian's portraiture — are rendered with fine detail characteristic of the mature Hadrianic style. The encircling Latin legend runs along the coin's inner border, framing the imperial effigy. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, typical of hammered orichalcum sestertii of this period. |
