| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate and draped bust of Hadrian facing right, with a full curly beard rendered in a naturalistic Hellenistic style characteristic of Hadrianic portraiture. The emperor is depicted with paludamentum fastened at the shoulder, presenting the refined and intellectual image cultivated throughout his reign. The encircling legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the periphery of the flan. The high-relief portrait displays carefully articulated curls of hair over the forehead and temples, consistent with the mature iconographic type of Hadrian established from circa 128 AD onward. The field is plain and unadorned, focusing all artistic attention on the commanding imperial effigy. |
