| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic realism including a closely cropped beard and finely detailed hair beneath the laurel wreath. The emperor's strong profile, with prominent brow and well-defined jaw, reflects the Hellenistic sculptural influence characteristic of Hadrianic portraiture. The encircling Latin legend runs along the periphery from lower left to upper right. The flan displays the typical broad, flat fabric of the Trajanic-Hadrianic sestertius series, struck in orichalcum. |
