| Beschrijving keerzijde | The goddess Fortuna is depicted seated left on a throne, wearing a draped stola, holding a rudder set on a globe in her extended right hand and a cornucopia in her left arm, emblematic of her dominion over fortune and prosperity. The large senatorial authorisation marks S and C (Senatus Consultum) are prominently placed in the left and right fields respectively, flanking the central figure. The legend FORTVNA appears in the exergue below the throne, identifying the deity. The inscription COS III is distributed in the upper field to the left of the figure, referencing Hadrian's third consulship. The composition is well-centred with a raised border, and the reverse type conveys the imperial ideology of beneficent and stable rule. |
