| Obverse description | Bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian facing right, rendered with fine detail characteristic of Hadrianic portraiture, including the emperor's distinctive short curly hair and full cropped beard — one of the earliest imperial portraits to feature a beard as a deliberate Hellenistic affectation. The effigy is positioned centrally and occupies the majority of the flan, conveying imperial authority. The encircling Latin legend reads HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, distributed around the periphery and bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim. |
