| Obverse lettering | HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS (Translation: Hadrianus Augustus. Hadrian, emperor (Augustus).) |
| Reverse description | The personification of Clementia stands facing, rendered in full figure at center of the field, draped in a long chiton and palla. She holds a patera in her extended right hand and a long vertical scepter or hasta pura in her left, attributes symbolizing mercy and imperial benevolence. The senatorial authorization monogram S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently placed in the lower field, flanking the figure to left and right respectively. The surrounding legend COS III P P CLEMENTIA AVG is distributed around the periphery, identifying the virtuous personification as the Clemency of Augustus. The composition is characteristic of the Hadrianic allegorical reverse type, emphasizing the emperor's celebrated qualities of moderation and mercy. |
