| Beschrijving keerzijde | Neptune stands facing left in the field, nude or semi-draped, holding a trident vertically in his right hand and resting his left foot on the prow of a ship (acrostolium), a composition evoking the emperor's safe return by sea. The senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) is prominently placed in the lower field to either side of the deity. The partial circular legend COS III NEP RED appears in the periphery, worn but legible, referencing Hadrian's third consulship and Neptune as the god who restored the emperor safely. The coin retains its characteristic dark green patina with areas of malachite encrustation. |
