| Obverse description | Bare-headed, laureate and draped bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic curly hair and short beard in the Hellenistic portrait tradition. The imperial effigy displays a naturalistic, slightly idealized treatment typical of Hadrianic court art. The circumferential Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The portrait is executed in high relief with fine engraving detail to the hair and facial features, consistent with the output of the Rome mint during this period. |
