| Obverse description | Bare-shouldered, laureate bust of the emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with characteristic curly hair and short beard in the Hellenistic portrait tradition adopted by this emperor. The effigy displays fine engraving of the laurel wreath, with individual leaves and berries visible, encircling the imperial head. The legend is disposed in a circular arrangement around the periphery of the field. The portrait conveys the idealised yet individualistic style typical of Hadrianic coinage from the Roman mint. |
