Sestertius - Galba S C, Victory

Galba's reign lasted just seven months, from June 68 to January 69 AD, cut short when the Praetorian Guard switched allegiance to Otho and hacked him to death in the Roman Forum. His bronze coinage was struck at Rome with conspicuous Victory imagery — a direct attempt to legitimize a reign that never escaped the shadow of its own fragility. The senate had declared Nero a public enemy, but Galba's brutal fiscal austerity and refusal to pay the donative promised to the troops made his position untenable almost from arrival.

RIC I 313 is among the more frequently encountered of his sestertii, suggesting reasonable production volume despite the compressed timeframe.
