| 表面の説明 | Laureate head of Emperor Galba facing right, with a draped bust, occupying the central field. The surrounding legend reads SER GALBA IMP CAESAR AVG TR P, distributed clockwise around the periphery in incuse Latin capitals. The portrait reflects the characteristic austere realism of Flavian-era imperial portraiture, rendering Galba's aged and stern features with notable accuracy. The flan is broad and slightly irregular, typical of hammered bronze sestertii of the period. |

Galba's reign lasted just seven months, and his sestertii were struck at Rome in extraordinary haste — the mint had to pivot almost overnight from Neronian production to legitimizing a new emperor who had seized power through military revolt rather than dynastic succession. RIC I 394 is among the more attainable of his bronze issues, though the brevity of the reign keeps overall output modest relative to stable dynasties.
Galba was murdered in the Forum on January 15, 69 AD, the first emperor to fall in the Year of the Four Emperors.
