正面描述 Laureate and draped bust of Emperor Galba facing right, rendered in high relief with strong portraiture characteristic of the Julio-Claudian/Flavian transitional period. The emperor's aged features are depicted with realism, including a prominent brow and firm jaw. The laurel wreath is clearly delineated around the head. The encircling legend runs along the outer border of the obverse field.

背面描述 The helmeted goddess Roma, depicted in full military dress, stands facing slightly to the left. In her extended right hand she holds a small Victory figure standing upon a globe, while her left hand grasps a long spear. The composition reflects standard Julio-Claudian reverse iconography celebrating Roman military dominance. The legend ROMA appears in the field alongside the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum), placed prominently to either side of the central design.

附加信息

Galba's reign lasted just seven months, from June 68 to January 69 AD, ending when the Praetorian Guard murdered him in the Roman Forum and carried his head through the streets on a pole. His bronze coinage is consequently scarce by structural necessity rather than minting accident — there was simply no time for large-scale production. RIC I 358 is among the more frequently documented of his sestertius types, but "frequently documented" is relative for a reign this short.

Struck at Rome, this issue belongs to a reign that saw three further emperors before the year was out — the period historians would later call the Year of the Four Emperors.
