| Beschrijving keerzijde | The personification of Libertas standing facing left in long draped robes, holding a pileus (freedman's cap) in her extended right hand and a long vertical rod (vindicta or hasta) in her left. The figure is rendered with naturalistic drapery falling to the feet, occupying the central field. The senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears in the field to either side of the figure at mid-height, flanked by the two-word legend LIBERTAS PVBLICA divided across the field. The reverse composition is characteristic of Neronian and early Flavian aes coinage celebrating the restoration of public liberty. |
