Aanvullende informatie

Galba's reign lasted just seven months, from June 68 to January 69 AD, making his bronze issues genuinely scarce by the mathematics of production time alone. This adlocutio type — depicting the emperor addressing his troops — was politically urgent coinage, minted as Galba struggled to consolidate authority after Nero's fall and his own march on Rome from Spain. He never fully succeeded. The Praetorian Guard, alienated by his refusal to pay the donative he'd implicitly promised, murdered him in the Roman Forum on January 15, 69 AD.

RIC I#467 is among the more frequently encountered of his sestertius types, though that is a relative statement given the brevity of the reign.
