To the right, two armed praetorian soldiers stand at ease, one holding a large oval shield, the other a spear, with a military standard (signum) visible in the background. The composition is crowded and energetic, conveying the ceremonial address of the emperor to his troops. In the exergue, the legend ADLOCVTIO appears on the first line and S C (Senatus Consultum) on the second, within a plain linear border. |
