| Obverse description | Laureate head of Domitian facing right, with aegis at the shoulder, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and laurel wreath. The portrait displays the characteristic strong jaw and heavy brow associated with Flavian dynastic portraiture. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust, running from the lower left to the upper right of the field. The workmanship reflects the accomplished die-cutting of the Rome Mint during the latter years of Domitian's reign. The field retains a broad, slightly irregular flan typical of hammered sestertii of this period. |
