Obverse lettering TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP
(Translation: Tiberius Claudius Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Imperator. Tiberius Claudius Caesar, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, supreme commander (Imperator).)
Reverse description The reverse depicts a triumphal arch (the Arch of Nero Claudius Drusus) surmounted by an equestrian statue of Drusus the Elder in military attire, shown on a prancing horse and flanked by two standing trophies bearing shields and standards. The arch itself is rendered with architectural detail, featuring a central archway flanked by engaged columns and decorative panels. The large senatorial authorization mark S C (Senatus Consultum) appears prominently in the lower field to either side of the arch. The legend NERO CLAVDIVS DRVSVS GERMAN IMP runs around the upper periphery of the coin, honoring Claudius's father Drusus, who died in 9 BC. This reverse type was struck by Claudius as a posthumous tribute to his father, combining dynastic commemoration with a monumental architectural motif.
