| Descrizione del dritto | Bare-headed laureate bust of Caligula (Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) facing left, depicted with short wavy hair and a strongly modelled profile in the Roman imperial tradition. The emperor's neck and upper shoulder are rendered in a draped or semi-draped style characteristic of early Julio-Claudian portraiture. The encircling legend reads C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT, running clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The portrait conveys an idealised yet individualistic rendering consistent with the early years of Caligula's reign. The field is smooth and the overall die work reflects the high standard of the Rome Mint under the early Principate. |
