正面描述 Central field displays a civic oak wreath (corona civica), flanked on either side by a laurel branch, the whole composition rendered in low relief characteristic of Augustan hammered bronze coinage. The oak wreath, awarded to Augustus by the Senate for saving the lives of Roman citizens, serves as the primary decorative and symbolic motif. The surrounding inscription OB CIVIS SERVATOS arcs around the wreath, referencing the honorific granted to Augustus in 27 BC. The field shows no portrait, reflecting the restrained, emblematic design typical of Augustan aes coinage struck by the tresviri monetales.

附加信息

The tresviri monetales — the board of three mint magistrates whose names appear on aes coinage of the Augustan period — were junior senatorial appointees, typically men early in their careers seeking visibility. C. Plotius Rufus is known from this issue and little else; the position itself mattered more than the man. Augustus reinstated the practice of naming magistrates on bronze coinage after Caesar had suppressed it, a deliberate gesture toward Republican form that masked the reality of imperial control over the mint.
