Reverse description Bare-headed draped bust of Augustus facing right, rendered in a restrained provincial style with lightly articulated facial features and simply coiffed hair. The surrounding legend, inscribed in Latin capitals along the periphery of the irregular flan, reads P SITTIVS MVGONIANVS IIIIVIR DECR DECVR D S P, identifying the issuing magistrate Publius Sittius Mugonianus, quattuorvir, acting by decree of the decurions and at his own expense. The portrait is consistent with Augustan civic portraiture as adopted in North African colonial mints. The flan displays the same dark patina and surface irregularities as the obverse, typical of locally struck bronze coinage of Cirta.
