| Beschrijving voorzijde | Divus Augustus seated left on a high-backed throne, his feet resting upon a low footstool, rendered in a dignified, hieratic style befitting his deified status. The emperor is depicted radiate, holding a patera in his extended right hand and a long vertical sceptre in his left. An altar is shown to the left of the throne, referencing the imperial cult and posthumous veneration of Augustus. The portrait and attributes are executed in the bold, high-relief tradition of early Flavian bronzework. The obverse legend encircles the central type. |
