Reverse description Full-length frontal figure of Saint Anthony Abbot, nimbed and draped in the habit of a hermit monk, standing on a horizontal ground line. The saint holds a tau staff or crozier in his right hand and raises a palm frond or branch in his left, with a small pig or animal at his feet to the lower left, attributes traditionally associated with Saint Anthony. The surrounding circular legend reads SAN ANTONIVS, disposed around the periphery of the field in bold Latin capitals. The style is characteristic of provincial hammered coinage of the late sixteenth century.
