Obverse description Right-facing draped bust of Emperor Maurice Tiberius, helmeted with a diadem adorned with pendilia, wearing cuirass and paludamentum fastened at the right shoulder. The emperor holds a globus cruciger in his right hand, presented in the late antique imperial portrait tradition. A Latin legend runs around the periphery of the flan, partially visible on the irregular hammered planchet. The portrait exhibits the stylized, frontal-tending characteristics typical of early Byzantine gold coinage from the Constantinople mint.
