| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse depicts a mourning female figure personifying the conquered province of Judaea, seated left at the base of a tall date palm tree in a posture of dejection, her head bowed and hands resting in her lap. To the right of the palm stands a yoke, a Roman symbol of subjugation and military conquest. The legend IVD CAP appears in the upper field divided by the palm trunk, with the senatorial authority mark S C (Senatus Consultum) flanking the central design at left and right. The composition closely follows the celebrated Judaea Capta series issued under Vespasian, here continued under Titus to commemorate the Roman suppression of the Jewish revolt and destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70. |
