Turiaso — modern Tarazona in Aragon — was one of the more prolific municipal mints operating in Hispania Tarraconensis under the early empire, producing a sustained run of bronze coinage through the reigns of Augustus and Tiberius. The MVN designation reflects its status as a municipium, a formal grant that shaped both the city's administrative identity and its right to strike coin. Municipal bronzes from this region were produced entirely for local circulation; the imperial mints in Rome had no interest in supplying small change to provincial markets.
RPC I 421 is among the less common Turiasan issues, with the semis denomination surviving in notably smaller numbers than the larger as from the same series.
