Sabratha, one of the three cities that gave Tripolitania its name, struck bronze coinage under Tiberius as a provincial expression of loyalty to the new regime — Augustus had died in 14 AD, and civic mints across the empire were quick to signal alignment with his successor. Issues from Sabratha are scarce in any form; the city's output was limited compared to the major eastern provincial mints, and bronze fractions of this type survive in genuinely small numbers. The SNG Copenhagen specimen remains a primary reference point precisely because so few examples have entered institutional collections.
