| Reverse description | Central field depicting a Herculean club upright, flanked on the left by a bow and on the right by a quiver with arrows, all symbols associated with Hercules, the divine patron of Carteia. The surrounding circular legend reads P FALCIDIVS IIII VIR EX S C F C, identifying the magistrate Publius Falcidius as one of the quattuorviri who authorized the issue ex senatus consulto. The die workmanship is provincial in character, with bold if somewhat crude relief. The flan is irregularly struck, as is typical of Hispanic municipal bronzes of the late Republican period. |
