Domitian held the title PRINCEPS IVVENTVTIS — prince of youth — as a formal designation of his status as heir during Titus's reign, a title with Augustan precedent designed to signal dynastic continuity. This semis belongs to the brief window between Vespasian's death in June 79 AD and Domitian's own accession in September 81, a period in which Titus ruled while Domitian's position remained politically ambiguous despite the honorific.
Titus died after just twenty-six months as emperor, possibly of fever, though ancient sources hint at worse.
