Domitian's semis denominations from 81 AD fall within his first year as emperor, following the death of Titus in September of that year. The semis had been largely dormant as a struck denomination for stretches of the first century, and its revival under the Flavians reflects a conscious effort to restore a complete bronze token coinage. RIC II.1 836 is a scarce type; the semis in general saw limited production runs compared to the sestertius and as, meaning survival rates are low simply by original volume.
