Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in profile with characteristic imperial portraiture of the Augustan period. The emperor's features are depicted in a naturalistic Hellenistic style typical of early provincial Roman coinage. The surrounding legend reads L BEN PRAE IMP CAES QVIN, distributed around the circumference of the flan. The die work, though worn, reflects the civic pride of the Carthago Nova mint in reproducing the imperial effigy.
