| Obverse description | Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style typical of early Imperial provincial coinage. The wreath of laurel is clearly articulated around the crown of the head, with locks of hair visible beneath. The circular legend AVGVSTVS DIVI F runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the emperor as son of the deified Julius Caesar. The portrait exhibits the characteristic aquiline features associated with Augustan iconography, with a strong jaw and prominent brow. |
