背面描述 A standing deity or civic figure, depicted frontally in high relief at the center of the field, rendered in a schematic provincial style. The figure appears draped and may represent a tutelary divinity associated with the colony of Paestum. The surrounding field carries the duoviral inscription arranged in multiple lines and around the periphery within a beaded border. The legends naming the magistrates Gaius Lollius and Marcus Doi— as duovirs, together with the denominational and senatorial authority abbreviations, encircle and flank the central type. The overall composition is typical of Roman colonial bronze coinage of the Augustan era.

附加信息

Paestum — the Greek colony of Poseidonia, absorbed into the Roman system as a Latin colony in 273 BC — retained the right to strike local bronze coinage well into the Augustan period, a privilege extended to relatively few Italian communities by that point. The magistrates named in this issue, the duoviri quinquennales, held the senior civic office responsible for census duties and, crucially, for authorizing local coin production. Their names on the flan were not ceremonial; they carried legal accountability for the issue.

The S C notation on local Italian bronzes of this period reflects deference to senatorial authority over coinage, even at the municipal level.
