Semis

The Ausesken were an Iberian people of the northeastern peninsula, and their bronze coinage — including this semis — was struck during a period when Rome had militarily dominated the region following the Second Punic War but had not yet imposed monetary uniformity. Local Iberian mints continued issuing on their own weight standards, absorbing Roman denominational concepts while retaining indigenous scripts and imagery. The semis designation here reflects Roman influence on fractional reckoning rather than direct Roman control of the mint.
