Usekerte — ancient Osca, modern Huesca in Aragon — minted this issue during one of the most consequential years in Roman history. The 49–48 BC window falls precisely within Caesar's Hispanian campaigns following the crossing of the Rubicon, when local Iberian mints either capitulated to or actively supported the Pompeian or Caesarian factions scrambling for control of the peninsula. Which side Usekerte aligned with remains debated.
