| 裏面の説明 | A lozenge-shaped heraldic shield bearing a cross, surmounted by a crown, occupies the central field; the shield is rendered in the characteristic Barcelona municipal style with bold, deeply struck lines. The design is contained within an inner circle, with the Latin legend distributed around the annular field between the inner circle and an outer beaded border. The date 1641 appears integrated into the legend. The overall execution reflects the irregular, handmade character of hammered civic coinage. |

The timing of this issue is inseparable from the Corpus de Sang — the Bloody Corpus of June 7, 1640 — when Catalan reapers murdered the Viceroy of Catalonia, Santa Coloma, and effectively launched open revolt against Castilian authority. Barcelona began striking its own copper coinage almost immediately, a direct administrative assertion that the Principality could function independent of Madrid. Philip IV's name on the coin is almost an irony: the king in whose name it was struck was the same monarch the Catalans were actively rebelling against, and within months they would transfer allegiance to Louis XIII of France.
