Seiseno - Louis XIV Barcelona

The seiseno was a Catalan six-diners piece struck during the Reapers' War — the revolt of Catalonia against Castilian rule that began in 1640 when peasants and troops clashed on Corpus Christi day. Catalonia had placed itself under French protection in 1641, and these coppers were issued under Louis XIV's nominal suzerainty as Count of Barcelona, a title the French crown held for over a decade while Spanish and French forces fought across the principality's territory.

French overlordship ended in practice with the fall of Barcelona to Philip IV's forces in 1652, making the window for this issue just over a decade — and in circulation terms, considerably shorter.
