Each arm of the cross terminates in an annulet, and pellets are placed in the two upper quarters as well as between the steps, creating a structured decorative composition typical of Series F sceatta reverses. A pseudo-legend of degenerate, blundered letterforms derived from debased Roman script surrounds the central device, encircling the design without forming any intelligible inscription. |
