| Beschrijving keerzijde | A small cross is centrally placed within an inner circle, with pellets positioned in each of the four angles formed by the cross arms. Surrounding this central motif, the legend EOTIBERETVS runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the reigning Northumbrian king Eadberht. The design is typical of the joint-issue sceats produced in association between the archbishopric of York and the Northumbrian royal authority during the mid-eighth century. The execution is characteristic of the local hammered coinage tradition, with slightly irregular flan shaping. |
