| Obverse description | A mitred ecclesiastical figure, identified as Archbishop Ecgberht, depicted standing in profile to the right, holding two long crosses, one in each hand. The design is rendered in the angular, schematic style characteristic of Northumbrian sceats of the mid-eighth century. The archbishop's vestments and mitre are suggested by the die cutter's rudimentary but recognisable workmanship.
