| Obverse description | Central cross with splayed arms divides the field into four quadrants, each containing portions of the ruler's name legend. The inscription reads retrograde and is arranged around the cross in the Northumbrian Anglo-Saxon manner. The lettering is rendered in a somewhat crude, angular style characteristic of mid-8th century Northumbrian coinage. A beaded border encircles the entire design. |
