Reverse description The reverse displays an animated figure, likely a bird or quadruped rendered in the distinctive interlaced Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic style, occupying the majority of the field. Three pellets are arranged in a vertical column near the centre of the design, a recurring diagnostic feature of the Class D sceat series. The creature's limbs and body are depicted with sweeping incuse lines, creating a bold and energetic, if schematic, composition. A triquetral or triangular symbol with internal linear decoration appears in the lower field, adding an emblematic device characteristic of Northumbrian coinage of this reign. The flan edges are irregular, and the overall die-work, while vigorous, displays the characteristic roughness of hammered provincial coinage.
