| Obverse description | Degenerate or stylised head motif of the so-called 'porcupine' type, facing right, rendered in a highly abstract Anglo-Saxon manner with pellets and curved lines suggesting facial features. A wavy line appears beneath the central device, flanked by pellet arrangements. The design is uninscribed and entirely decorative in character, reflecting the progressive stylisation characteristic of Series E derivative sceats. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of early hammered Anglo-Saxon silver coinage. |
