| Obverse description | Central small cross pattée occupying the inner field, surrounded by a circular legend in debased Latin lettering. The inscription runs around the periphery in a retrograde or irregular fashion characteristic of late Northumbrian sceats. The design is rendered in low relief with crude but deliberate workmanship typical of eighth-century Northumbrian hammered coinage. |
