| Reverse description | A stylised quadruped, likely a dragon or fantastic beast, shown in profile facing right, with a horned or crested head raised and a distinctive cross-marked body or wing. Beneath the creature, a wheel or lozenge motif with internal pellets occupies the lower field, a characteristic device of Northumbrian sceattas of this series. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent beaded border. The imagery is rendered in the debased, schematic manner characteristic of late 8th-century Northumbrian coinage. No legend is present on this face. |
