| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by a boldly rendered sardula (mythical lion-composite beast) depicted in dynamic striding posture, its grotesque fanged face shown frontally with prominent bulging eyes and elaborate foliate crown, while the muscular body with clawed forepaws and curling tail is rendered in high relief in the Indian artistic tradition. The creature's mane and body are embellished with finely incised foliate and flame-like decorative elements filling the field. The entire design is contained within a beaded border running along the coin's periphery. The execution reflects the characteristic high-relief hammered style of the Kadamba mint, with deep undercutting typical of 13th-century Goan goldsmithing. |
