| Obverse description | The obverse features a central square perforation surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in the cardinal positions of the field, reading 大法國安南 當二 (Great French Annam, Worth Two), in the traditional format of Chinese cash coinage. The characters are rendered in an incuse style with bold strokes against a plain, flat field. The design closely follows the aesthetic of Vietnamese and Chinese cash coins, with the square hole serving both a functional and symbolic role. No border or rim ornament is present, the legend occupying the entirety of the field in a cruciform arrangement around the central void. |
