Obverse description The obverse features a raised square frame at center, evoking the traditional cash coin format but rendered solid without a central hole. The square is set within a broad, flat field. The circular legend COCHINCHINE FRANÇAISE arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 1879 positioned below the central square between two small five-pointed stars. The design is rendered in a clean, machine-struck style consistent with Paris Mint trial piece production of the late 19th century.
