Reverse description Within a double grenetis border of beaded circles, the reverse presents an Annunciation scene in the Gothic devotional tradition: the Archangel Gabriel stands to the left with his right hand raised in a gesture of salutation, while the Virgin Mary kneels in prayer to the right. Between the two figures, a lily in a vase occupies the central field, a well-established symbol of Marian purity and virginity. The encircling Latin legend, drawn from the Angelic Salutation (Luke 1:28), reads: AVE GRACIA PLENA DOMINUS TECUM, lending the coin its name, the Saluto d'Oro.
