Obverse description The Portuguese royal coat of arms rendered in hammered relief, occupying the central field of the flan. The design is characteristically crude and irregular, consistent with the hand-struck coinage of the Goa mint during the late 18th century. The armorial shield displays the traditional Portuguese emblems in a bold, stylized fashion. The overall strike is uneven, with the device showing varying depth across the surface. A toothed or granular border is visible around the periphery.
